Tips For Choosing the Perfect Campsite
You’ve picked the perfect campground, but how do you narrow down your choice of sites?
Decide what type of holiday you want
Peaceful retreat or activity-filled? Look at the campground map for the playgrounds, fields, washrooms, and the access points to trails and amenities — then pick a site near them for convenience, or well away from them for quiet.
Check for hookups
Work out which connections you actually need, and use that to narrow the list.
Do your research and check reviews
Use Google Earth to look at what surrounds the campground — a highway or a rail line will find you at 3am. Read the reviews and look at the photos previous visitors have posted.
Manoeuvrability and site size
Measure your RV including the awning and the slide-outs, and compare it to the site dimensions. A big unit is much happier on a pull-through or a site with room to swing.
Get the inside scoop
Phone a private campground and ask. The staff know which sites suit which kind of camper.
Consider potential safety concerns
A waterfront site is a lovely view and easy water access — and a thing to think twice about with young children.
