Budgeting for an RV Vacation
What do you need to account for when setting a budget for your next RV vacation? From fuel to firewood, here are the expenses to consider.
Before your trip
Go through the storage areas and cupboards and note anything that needs replacing or repairing. Inventory the pantry so you know what the grocery shop actually is. Travelling internationally, budget for travel insurance.
On the road
Fuel is the big one — a trip cost calculator like GasBuddy will get you close. Budget for meals along the route, and remember the propane refills.
At the campground
Site fees are the largest expense once you arrive, then firewood, dump fees and the camp store. National parks need an entrance pass.
Just for fun
Look up the destination in advance and budget for the activities, from guided tours to amusement park admission.
A contingency fund
Vacations don’t always go as planned. Keep something aside for an unexpected repair or for the piece of gear you left at home.
