All about RV Tank Treatments
An unglamorous but important side of RV maintenance: keeping foul odours at bay with tank treatments. The black and the grey tank need different approaches.
Grey water tank treatment
The grey tank has no sewage in it, but dishwater and shower water together still produce a real smell — from the tank, the vents and the drain traps. A grey tank odour eliminator handles all three, and prevents the accumulation of grease, fats and soap scum inside your tank, making cleaning and maintenance easier.
Black water tank treatment
This one is about sanitation. Buildup inside the tank confuses the sensors, so the tank reads full when it isn’t.
Treatments come as a liquid, a powder or a pre-packaged drop-in. Pour it down the toilet into a clean, empty tank with some water in it, so the chemical isn’t sitting stagnant.
Quality varies a great deal. Some products only mask the odour; the better ones break down waste and prevent buildup. Choose one that eliminates waste, keeps the sensors reading correctly and cleans the tank walls.
What we stock
We recommend the RV-BOSS™ line — it eliminates odours, breaks down waste, cleans the tank and the sensors, and is both economical and ecologically responsible.
