8 Helpful RV Winter Storage Tips
Is your RV ready for its seasonal slumber? Here are eight winter storage tips.
1. Get it squeaky-clean
Wash away all of the gathered dirt and grime before it goes into storage — RV Care approved cleaning products make short work of it.
2. Inspect the sealant
Regular inspection is the best way to catch failing sealant before it lets water in. Inspect at least twice a year, and make a habit of inspecting and cleaning all seals before and after storage.
3. Clear out the food
Don’t leave any tasty treats for rodents. Empty the cupboards and the fridge completely.
4. Winterize the water system
Keep the pipes from freezing — see How To Winterize your RV.
5. Take care of the tires
Store the RV on blocks to take the weight off the tires, or park on firm, clean, well-drained and level ground so the pressure is spread evenly. Keep the tires properly inflated, and use tire covers or a piece of plywood against UV.
6. Reduce humidity
As it gets colder outside, humidity becomes a problem inside. Dehumidifying crystals soak up the excess moisture.
7. Look after the battery
Batteries self-discharge while they sit. Minimise the degree of discharge over the winter — the storage procedure is here.
8. Cover it up
If your RV normally spends the season out in the weather, a cover keeps the decals from fading prematurely and makes spring cleaning much easier.
